Community events in north east Essex for mental health awareness week
Five community events and wellbeing activities are being held across north east Essex to mark mental health awareness week.
The events have been organised by NEE mental health transformation team together with colleagues from health and wellbeing organisations across north east Essex including MIND, Essex pedal power, Community voluntary service Tendring (CVST).
They are running daily during mental health awareness week from Monday 12 to Friday 16 May. Each event is being held in a local venue in Colchester, Manningtree, Harwich and Walton on the Naze.
Rob Chandler, north east Essex Head of Mental Health System Change said: “The theme for this year’s mental health awareness week is community and we have worked with health and wellbeing organisations across north east Essex to organise these to celebrate the importance of people getting together in their local community and provide access to help and support.”
The events are free to attend and refreshments will be provided. People can drop in to any of the events, meet others and talk to representatives of the health and wellbeing organisations who are taking part.
Rob adds: “Whilst mental health awareness week provides an opportunity to raise awareness of the organisations that provide help and support, there is always help available.
“In north east Essex the mental health charity MIND run the Sanctuary Service which offers a calm, compassionate space to help people manage their mental health. The service provides practical and emotional support seven days a week, 365 days a year and people can self-refer to it.”
During the week activities are taking place including Walking for Wellbeing at various sites in Colchester and a walk led by Community Voluntary Services Tendring on Friday in Harwich. Essex pedal power will also be organising some bikes rides during the week.
