As many of you will know, Essex has recently moved from having three separate NHS Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) to one single ICB covering Southend, Essex and Thurrock. This means the new Essex ICB is now responsible for everyone receiving Continuing Health Care (CHC) support — whether through a managed service or a personal health budget.
A few families have experienced hiccups during this transition, and we’ve been working closely with them to help resolve these issues. Because of this, we have offered to host a Listening Event so the Continuing Health Care team can hear directly from families about:
- what is working well
- what challenges people are facing
- what would make the process easier
They are keen to hear from families of both adults and children who receive Continuing Health Care funding, as well as families whose family member is supported under Section 117 aftercare. (Section 117 is a legal duty under the Mental Health Act requiring the NHS and local authorities to provide support for people leaving hospital after being detained under certain sections.)
We plan to host both in‑person and online sessions this autumn, and we want to hear from anyone who:
- currently receives CHC funding
- has been refused CHC funding
- or wants to share their experience of the process
